Carmel - 80th birthday cake

Carmel has many interests and loves. She is a keen photographer and an amateur author. She also loves her dog, we decided to include these in the cake made to celebrate her 80th birthday.
The cake is an 8" strawberry swirl and everything is handmade and edible.

Linda's Mammy's Cake!

I do love this cake. It is a 10" zesty lemon cake with handmade model of the mammy doing what she loves most, drinking tea, playing solitaire and eating chocolate. . . all in her favourite armchair.

Regular Show

This is a 10" zesty lemon cake decorated to include all (well, nearly all .. . . how was I to know there was a goat named Thomas) the Regular Show cast. Made for my son, my biggest fan and critic.

Suzuki Jigster for Nigel

This was a great cake to make.  A two tier cake, 10" chocolate biscuit and an 8" vanilla, with a handmade Suzuki Jigster on top.  The birthday boy loved it.  As did his lovely wife who ordered it.

First competition!

The Dublin Sugarcraft Guild hold a show/exhibition every two years and it was at the show two years ago that I decided I really wanted to get into this.  The last show was good, this one was fantastic.  Great stalls, great demos and great competition entries.
I spent a huge amount of money but, hey, it's alright.  I'm simply investing in my future.  At least, that's what I'm tellling myself.
I decided to enter two cakes.  One was a homage to the rocket cake that broke my heart last year and that was entered in the Wedding category.  The other was entered in the Open Class and the theme was Seaside.  I received two Highly Commended Certificates and was delighted.
We've eaten the rocket cake but the seaside one has pride of place in one of my kitchen presses - one with a glass door! - as it's made from a dummy and I really, really love it.

This is a 12" cake cut into a size suitable for a box (i.e. quartered and stacked!). Everything is edible except the box lid, the order came in too late to make one from pastillage. The cake itself is chocolate biscuit.

Peter Computer Guy

This is a 10" milk chocolate biscuit cake made for Peter who is an avid computer user and crisp fan.  Apparently his office has lots of paper on the floor too.
