Asa hits 40!

This is a 10" chocolate biscuit cake that was made to celebrate Asa hitting the ripe old age of 40.  He is a huge SKA fan and this cake was designed by Bernie.  Bizarre twist that, I make the cake and Bernie decorates.  Fantastic cake though, huh?

Suzuki Jigster for Nigel

This was a great cake to make.  A two tier cake, 10" chocolate biscuit and an 8" vanilla, with a handmade Suzuki Jigster on top.  The birthday boy loved it.  As did his lovely wife who ordered it.

First competition!

The Dublin Sugarcraft Guild hold a show/exhibition every two years and it was at the show two years ago that I decided I really wanted to get into this.  The last show was good, this one was fantastic.  Great stalls, great demos and great competition entries.
I spent a huge amount of money but, hey, it's alright.  I'm simply investing in my future.  At least, that's what I'm tellling myself.
I decided to enter two cakes.  One was a homage to the rocket cake that broke my heart last year and that was entered in the Wedding category.  The other was entered in the Open Class and the theme was Seaside.  I received two Highly Commended Certificates and was delighted.
We've eaten the rocket cake but the seaside one has pride of place in one of my kitchen presses - one with a glass door! - as it's made from a dummy and I really, really love it.
