Littlewoods Pink Shoes - as a cake

Another bizarre one.  Got a phone call asking if I could turn a pair of shoes that are on a tv ad, that I hadn't seen, into a cake.  Said 'sure, no problem', but phone down and went frantically looking through tv guide to find programme that the ad would be on after.  These are the shoes:

And this is our take on them:

The sides of the box are made from fondant as is the 'tissue paper'.  The cake inside is a rum laden chocolate biscuit cake.

I got the following text the next day: "Niamh she loved it, thought she was going to have a heart attack when she saw it.  She did not want me to cut it!  Had to let her take some photos for about 30 minutes.  The cake tasted every bit as good as it looked, theres none left.  I only got a tiny bit.  Thanks for the most amazing cake ever x" - Maureen.

Pirate Treasure Map

10" Zesty Lemon Madeira.  Map is modelling paste, cake is covered in fondant and the 'sand' is made by grinding up digestive biscuits.  Was given job by a four year old.  He loved it but was disappointed I'd left out pirates!  I had the 'x marks the spot', a boat, skull, jolly roger, swords even a treasure chest but no pirates.

Sack of Potatoes

Once in a while you get asked to make a cake that baffles you.  We looked at all sorts of sacks before settling on a packet of Hunky Dory Crisps.  We were asked to make a sack of spuds for Joe's 60th birthday, an in-joke.  The cake is made from chocolate fudge and the potatoes and sack are fondant.  The grass is made from royal icing and the 'muck' is crumbled cake.

The client said "Yeah, Niamh he absolutely loved it.  Had to beg him to let me cut it.  Everyone loved it, thanks again."

Champagne Bottle Cake

I had the best fun making this cake.  The client was wonderful and happy to talk abour herself so I could work out how the cake should look.  It's a 12" Lemon Cake, covered in fondant.  The 'programme' is an edible icing sheet and the bottle itself is also edible.

The Client responded as follows:

if you need quotes to put up on your website here are a few – feel free to tailor them as you see fit:

“ excellent service from start to finish – sample ideas sent via email meant that I didn’t have any surprises with the final product”

“loved the way the company got to find out about me as a person –so they could match the cake to the individual - and in my case they got it ‘spot on’ – well done”.

“the end product was a beautiful cake - really different and the company really do what the name says – they are the perfectionist Confectionist and would highly recommend them to everyone no matter what the occasion“.

Mock Croc Handbag

This is a quite large ( 2 x 12" ) zesty lemon cake.  Lemon madeira, brushed with lemon syrup before being triple layered with lemon buttercream and lemoncurd.  It is then covered with fondant, with details added in modelling icing.

Anna later said "I was totally gobsmacked when I saw my cake.  It far exceeded my expectations. It was the talking point of the night (apart from me of course!)  Just such a shame I had to cut it and share out the yummy cake within."

Winnie's Table

A chocolate biscuit cake containing cointreau as well as everything else that is sinful and delicious.

We received this email a few weeks later:

Hi Niamh,

Apologies for only getting back to you now, it has been a bit hectic for the last week. Firstly I have no objections what so ever to being on your mailing list. Secondly as for the cake I cant even start to tell you how much of a success it was, it was witout doubt the focal point of the night, Winnie absolutely loved it as did the other 35 guests, all the kids on my road and all my neighbours. I had it on a table on its own to show it off to its best potential, Tony got some really good photos of it, so if you need any just let me know and i will e.mail them to you. It was so creative and stunning we didnt cut it on the night at all in fact it wasnt cut for four days after, so you could have just had a brick underneath it for all the interest that was in the acutal cake itself, it was all about the decoration. When it was eventually cut I must say it was goregeous very luscious. I gave your number to a few people and also one of your cards to the people we had doing the catering, they were very very impressed with it, so hopefully you will get some business out of it. You most certainly will get business from me again, Tara (my daughter0 definitely wants one for her confirmation etc. etc. and has already planned that when Tonly is 50 which I may add isn't for another 3 years she wants you to do a guitar.

Anyway, enough of me going on, once again thank you so much for the beautiful stunning cake and for the brilliant impact it had on the night, it really added to the success and enjoyment of Winnie's birthday.

Regards, Deirdre

Dressing Up Box

This was a 10" Zingy Lemon with lemon curd and lemon buttercream filling.  We received the phonecall booking the cake the day before it was due.  I think we did very well.

I received this email a few days after the event:

The cake was FABULOUS, it exceeded all expectations in look and taste. thank you.

It was worth getting the cake just to see my daughters face and excitement. I must admit I was heart broken to cut this work of art but this was short lived when I tasted the cake!!!! It was a delight to have a number of the children asking for more cake not to mention the mums and dads who spied the cake wanting to sample it also.
It was money well sent and I thank you so much, and I will definitely use you again not to mention recommending you to everyone! (I think my neighbour has ordered a cake too!).Many many thanks again and good look for your future. You are a treasure.
