So, the answer was 512 and the coolest little boy won the cake. 
The cake, btw, is an 8" carved vanilla cake and I love making smarties cakes ... so bright and so much fun and, if I'm being honest, the little(er) kids look at me like I'm a god and everyone needs to feel that once in a while lol.

This is an 6" tall and a something wide vanilla cake with a certain number of smarties inside. Can you guess how many there are?

This was a bit of a rush as the end of April came around two weeks earlier than I was expecting. The cake is a 6" vanilla cake and there were 279 smarties in that little well.

I love when we are asked to make these cakes for my kids school cake sale.... once I have an idea that is. 

This barrel is half cake and half smarties. The cake is a 4" high x 6" round chocolate fudge cake. We gained the extra height by using a card insert to hold the smarties. 

I ove how the kids guess. One guessed a gazillion and another guessed 50.

Made for the School Cake Sale this is our annual Guess How Many Smarties Cake.  (384 in this instance)  The cake is an 8" chocolate biscuit cake topped with lots of smarties and then even more smarties.

Made for our local Primary School's cake sale this is an 8" x 6" chocolate fudge cake.  The idea is that you guess how many smarties are there and, if you are right, you win the cake!!
