So, the answer was 512 and the coolest little boy won the cake.
The cake, btw, is an 8" carved vanilla cake and I love making smarties cakes ... so bright and so much fun and, if I'm being honest, the little(er) kids look at me like I'm a god and everyone needs to feel that once in a while lol.
